The "Music and Moving Image" Graduate Conference was held on the weekend of January 14-15, 2006 at UCSB. The theme of the conference explored the interaction between the broadly defined moving image (film, television, digital media, etc.) and music, sound, and even “silence” through a wide variety of interdisciplinary approaches. It was organized by a group of graduate students from several different departments on campus.

It included twenty-eight papers presented by students from around the United States and from foreign countries including Ireland, Japan, and the Netherlands. In addition, several media installation connected to the topic were featured, as well as an exhibit of autograph scoes by Bernard Herrmann, and screening of Rene Claire's Entracte with live accompaniment. The keynote speaker was distinguished film scholar Rick Altman (University of Iowa).
