American filmmaker John Cassavetes made the 1957 film SHADOWS on the cheap and purportedly on the fly-- the film claims to be a largely improvised, complete with a soundtrack by jazz bassist and composer Charles Mingus. The film focuses on romance between an African-American woman, Lelia, (Lelia Goldoni) and a white man, Anthony (Anthony Ray). Ralph Lowi (graduate student in Ethnomusicology) and Rob Wallace (Ph.D. Candidate, English) will introduce the film. Refreshments will be provided! Free admission!
