Lawrence Kramer is Professor of English and Music at Fordham University. A pivotal figure in the new musicology movement, he is co-editor of the journal 19th-Century Music and has published a series of books focusing on the interrelations of music, culture, and society. These include Opera and Modern Culture: Wagner and Strauss (2004), Musical Meaning: Toward a Critical History (2001), After the Lovedeath: Sexual Violence and the Making of Culture(2000), and Classical Music and Postmodern Knowledge (1996). Among his most recent projects is a volume he co-edited with Daniel Goldmark and Richard Leppert, titled Beyond the Soundtrack: Representing Music in Cinema, forthcoming from the University of California Press.
