Michal Grover-Friedlander is an associate Professor in the Musicology program and the Interdisciplinary program in the Arts at Tel Aviv University, Israel.  Professor Grover-Friedlander has co-edited an interdisciplinary book about the voice and the gaze (2002, in Hebrew); in 2005 her book, Vocal Apparition: The Attraction of Cinema to Opera, published by Princeton University Press, was awarded one of Choice’s outstanding academic titles for 2005 and was nominated for the Lewis Lockwood award.  She served as a guest editor of an issue of Opera Quarterly “Echoed Elsewhere” vol. 21/4, Autumn 2005; her article “The Afterlife of Maria Callas’s Voice” appeared in Spring 2005 in Music Quarterly. She is currently completing a new book provisionally entitled: Operatic Afterlive.  In the past several summers Michal Grover-Friedlander has been directing opera and in 2005 co-founded together with Carolyn Abbate from Harvard University, Saggitaria, a collaborative group of directors, stage designers, conductors and producers who stage opera and direct multi media performances of classical music (2005: Puccini’s  Gianni Schicchi in Italy, and Germany; 2006:  Ravel’s Mamère l’oye and his L’heure espagnol in Italy).
