Panel Discussion: "Single Line Compositional Techniques" with the Common Sense Composers Collective

Event Date:

Thursday, November 8, 2007 - 1:00pm to 2:30pm

Event Location:

  • Old Little Theater College of Creative Studies

Writing a convincing single-line work is in its unique way as difficult as writing for orchestra. Some might even say it's more difficult; after all, with melody, harmony, counterpoint, and texture concentrated in one place, every detail must be convincing. In this course, students write single-line pieces. In this presentation, members of the Common Sense Composers Collective will share their own insights, via their own music or favorites by other composers, into the process.

The Common Sense Composers Collective is a SF/NYC based collective of eight composers. Now in their eleventh successful year, the group continues to explore alternative ways of conceiving, developing, and presenting new musical works.
