CISM Podcast: Interview with Eugene Chadbourne on KCSB FM (co-host David Novak)

EUGENE CHADBOURNE (eugenechadbourne.com) is a legendary musician, radio host, writer and more. Making his beginnings in music in the late 1960's, Chadbourne experimented with blues, country, bluegrass, free jazz and noise music before fleeing the Vietnam war - ending up in Canada. Once in Canada he produced and hosted a show on Radio Radio 104.5 FM, playing a mix of obscure and remarkable music (104.5FM is now one of the last quasi-Pirate radio stations in Canada). Over the course of his musical career he has released almost 40 albums, invented his own instruments ('the electric rake'), contributed to Maximum Rock’n’Roll, authored a book on touring networks and how to be an independent musician and collaborated with John Zorn, Jello Biafra, the Violent Femmes and  many more. A unique voice and interdisciplinary agent of underground/experimental/independent music.

WORKSHOP

Following his performance on December 6th, Eugene Chadbourne will offer an open workshop on the topics of improvisation, creativity, and independent careers in music, on December 7th from 10-11 AM in Music 1133.

SPECIAL GUESTS:

AZEEM WARD (facebook.com/AzeemWardFlute) is inevitably known for the unfathomable internet reach of his senior flute recital, but do not let that overshadow the talent of this skilled and experimental flautist. Azeem completed his Bachelors of Music at UCSB while performing with the university orchestra, winning multiple competitions and travelling to Florence, Italy to participate in Flauti al Castello. His overnight explosion of popularity on the internet led to a 15-date across the United Kingdom with fellow UCSB musician and collaborater DJ Underbelly.

ROB MAGILL (weirdcry.bandcamp.com) is an experimental multi-instrumentalist from Ojai, CA. Through Weird Cry, he has recorded and released a number of albums featuring himself or other musicians from the Ojai area. Magill will be performing saxophone pieces for this event at FUNZONE, while he will be performing with his band Post-Nothing on December 5th with Eugene Chadbourne and Uranium Orchard at the Ojai Women's Club.
